The situation in New Orleans, other parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama is beyond any words I have. The plight of the residents is gut-wrenching, and the local, state and federal governments’ lack of preparation in the days immediately before the hurricane hit (they could have helped evacuate the residents too poor or sick to leave on their own), and the delay in responding after the hurricane is both tragic and shameful.
