The first Prempro hormone-replacement trial in the nation begins today in federal court in Little Rock, Arkansas. There are approximately 4500 Prempro suits filed nationwide.
The suits all allege basically the same thing: that women who took the estrogen-Progestin combination for premenopausal symptoms exposed themselves to a higher risk of breast cancer, stroke, and coronary heart disease. The suits claim that Pfizer, the manufacturer of Progestin, and Wyeth, the manufacturer of Prempro either knew or should have known of the dangers involved, and should have warned consumers of those dangers.
