Many lawyers are also history buffs, and even those who aren’t should read the works of Thomas Jefferson. Many of those works are available online at the Thomas Jefferson Papers at the Library of Congress.
My favorite quote about Jefferson is included in this story:
At a dinner honoring 49 Nobel Prize winners from the Western Hemisphere, President John F. Kennedy paid tribute to Thomas Jefferson’s wide-ranging interests and abilities when he remarked, “I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered together at the White House, with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone.”
