The Wall Street Journal reports, “The Consumer Product Safety Commission is expected on Wednesday to announce a recall of one million Kolcraft play yards, raising questions anew over the safety of products widely perceived as safe for unattended children.” Portable playpens are the subject of the expected recall which “follows hundreds of complaints of collapsing sides and reports of 21 injured children.” When a CPSC was asked why it took so long for the recall to be announced, an agency spokesperson said, “It’s important for all companies, especially those that are makers or sellers of children’s products, to know that the law calls for reporting immediately to CPSC.” He added, “The quicker we learn about incidents, the quicker we can work with a company to take the right action.”
