Xanodyne Pharmaceuticals Inc., the manufacturer of the painkillers Darvon and Darvocet has agreed to stop marketing those drugs in the Untied State. A new study has linked Darvon and Darvocet to serious and sometimes fatal heart rhythm abnormalities.
This action was taken at the request of the Food and Drug Administration. The FDA also asked makers of generic versions of the drugs’ active ingredient, propoxyphene, to stop selling it.
Both Britain and the European Union pulled these drugs off the market in 2009.
