The New York Times reports on a recall targeting some 173,000 Recaro car seats after 18 months of resistance by the company. The Recaro safety issue was discovered by the NHTSA “in late 2013 and early 2014 during routine crash tests to check compliance with Federal safety standards,” the article reports, when the agency found that “a part that helps keep the top of the child seat secure could break during a crash, allowing the top of the seat to fly forward.” Federal regulators required a recall, but the company resisted arguing it was not a serious safety issue.
