Federal Judge Grants Class-Action Status to Female Attorneys’ Suit Against Farmers Insurance

The Insurance Journal reports that US District Judge July H. Koh in San Jose “has granted class action status to a suit brought by female attorneys against Farmers Insurance for discriminatory practices.” The initial suit “was filed on behalf of Lynne Coates, who her attorney said was paid less than male counterparts who had ‘decades less’ experience than her.” Three women “opted-in on the suit in late summer,” and “the attorney has added more women to the suit since, bringing the total to 12 former or current Farmers attorneys involved in the case.” The Journal notes that Lori Andrus of Andrus Anderson LLP and Lori Costanzo of the Costanzo Law Firm are representing the plaintiffs, and that Andrus “in April first sought the class action status in a suit she believes could now potentially encompass 300 or more female attorneys.” The Recorder (CA) also reports on the ruling.

About This Blog

The title of this blog reflects my attitude toward those government agencies and insurance companies that routinely mistreat injured or disabled people. As a Dallas, Texas lawyer, I've spent more than 45 years trying to help those poor folk, and I have been frustrated daily by the actions of the people on the other side of their claims. (Sorry if I offended you...)
