
The Street reports that according to Carfax, the number of odometer rollback cases are increasing each year. Chris Basso of Carfax explained that this is because it is not a difficult fraud to execute and many consumers are unaware of it. Basso added, “Rolling back mileage is a fairly profitable crime, since committing the fraud is relatively fast.” Basso also mentioned that there are now online tools that allow scammers to roll back mileage on multiple cars. The article adds, “At least 1.5 million cars have incorrect mileage and a minimum of another 200,000 cars are tampered with each year.”
