Boston reports that the DOT announced an agreement with ten major automakers to install automatic emergency braking and forward-collision warning systems in all new cars over the next few year. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said in a press release, “We are entering a new era of vehicle safety, focused on preventing crashes from ever occurring, rather than just protecting occupants when crashes happen.” The IIHS and the NHTSA will oversee that the automakers uphold their commitment, devising a timeline for the implementation in the coming months.
