Fox News reports an investigation by Circa news revealed that car auctions performed by the General Services Administration of decommissioned government vehicles included those with “open recalls – some with ‘disturbing and potentially dangerous defects.’” According to Fox, the “more common problems” included “vehicles with steering problems and airbag flaws that, if deployed, could shoot metal fragments at the driver.” Of the 2,037 GSA cars for sale in August. “427 had open recalls.” A GSA spokesperson said the agency “is in full compliance with the laws and regulations regarding auto auctions” because it “notifies all auction bidders and successful buyers that there may be outstanding recalls on the sale vehicle, and to contact either their local dealership or use the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) website to check the vehicle’s recall status.”
