The New York Daily News reports that “more than 63 million recalled cars on the road in the United States today…continue to drive unrepaired,” according to data from Carfax. The report “suggests that people seem to have less free time to bring their cars to the dealership, as minivans and SUVs make up the majority of unrepaired recalls.” A Carfax spokesman said “that car owners are either unaware that their vehicles are subject to a recall or they may be experiencing ‘recall fatigue.’” The article notes that “the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been more aggressive in recent years with recalls,” including the Takata airbag recall which “may be a significant contributing factor in the increase.”
