
Distracted driving crashes in Travis County increased 12 percent from 2016 to 2017, according to AAA Texas. Dallas and Harris Counties experienced larger year-to-year increases–Dallas County increased 20 percent, while Harris County, which covers the Houston area, shot up 62 percent. AAA Texas says distracted driving is an epidemic in the state and across the nation, and kills an average of nine people and injures 1,000 each day, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
