
Forbes contributor Carlton Reid reports that a study published in Nature, “The Moral Machine Experiment,” warns that autonomous cars could kill cyclists because the driverless vehicles are not able to account for the cyclists’ unpredictability. Moral psychologist Azim Shariff says that self-driving cars will be programmed to “be slightly closer to the bicycle lane,” which “may slightly reduce the likelihood of hitting other cars, while slightly increasing the likelihood of hitting cyclists.”
