Have an Unusual or Specific Case to File? Here’s How to Find the Best Lawyer for the Job

If the time comes that you are faced with an unusual situation that requires court attention, you will need to find a qualified attorney for legal representation. Rather than looking for a general practice attorney, you might need to find one that specializes in certain types of law. Here are tips for locating the right lawyer.

Ask Other Victims

People who are treated for certain types of medical issues might meet other patients who are suffering from the same conditions. If their injuries were caused by negligent conditions, some might have retained legal counsel. They can refer you to their attorney or the specific type of legal firm that handles the case you plan to file.

Contact the Local Bar Association

Many cities and counties, as well as each state, has its own Bar Association that maintains the membership of practicing attorneys organized by area of practice. Some associations will provide referrals to certain types of lawyers who specialize in specific or unusual cases. Find out if a referral can be made or if the association can point you toward the kind of firms that are best qualified to handle your type of case.

Search Online Law Firms

Browse online law firm websites to find those that handle the case type you are going to file. Search by keywords that pertain to your case, for example, mesothelioma lawyers. Try different search terms until you get the results you need. You might have to consult a broader-based firm, for example, lung disease attorney, to find relevant representation. When you contact a more general firm, if they don’t handle that type of litigation, they may be able to steer you toward lawyers who represent cases like yours.

Request a Court-Appointed Attorney

People with special cases who are indigent can request a court-appointed attorney. If the court does not provide legal representation, it may be able to refer you to an income-based law firm for people who cannot afford regular legal fees. Find out what the court can do to help if none of the other options work out.

You can also ask friends and coworkers who may have experienced a similar legal situation if they know of an attorney to recommend. Social media might open another avenue for an explanation. Ask around to find the most qualified lawyer for your case rather than settle for a general practitioner who may not be as knowledgeable.

About This Blog

The title of this blog reflects my attitude toward those government agencies and insurance companies that routinely mistreat injured or disabled people. As a Dallas, Texas lawyer, I've spent more than 45 years trying to help those poor folk, and I have been frustrated daily by the actions of the people on the other side of their claims. (Sorry if I offended you...)
