Despite a Massive Drop in Crashes, Texas Sees Increase in Speed-Related Road Deaths

In the early days of the pandemic shutdown, officials hoped a hiatus on commutes could save lives. Laura Ryan, a member of the Texas Transportation Commission, said state safety experts fielded questions about whether Texas could break its 19-year streak of at least one roadway death every day. They soon recognized it was not to be.
