The Albany (NY) Times Union reports that the “National Transportation Safety Board is continuing to pressure the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration to adopt new seatbelt requirements for limousines.” In a May 26 letter to NHTSA Deputy Administrator James Owens, NTSB Chairman Robert Sumwalt wrote, “We urge you to reconsider your position and to work to implement the recommended (seatbelt) requirement before more lives are lost unnecessarily.” NHTSA “has not acted since the NTSB made the recommendation last September following a preliminary investigation into the Oct. 6, 2018 [limo] crash, which killed 20 people.”
