5 After-Effects of a Car Accident You Probably Didn’t Think About

Experiencing an auto accident comes as a surprise to everyone, as this is not something you would plan for. For you to survive a car crash is a major blessing to most, however it may still bring about long-term side effects that could go unnoticed. Side effects can range from internal bleeding, whiplash, PTSD, and possible concussions. These listed are just a few effects that could potentially cause life-long problems.

Concussions

Coming out of an auto accident with a concussion can either go good or go bad, depending on surrounding circumstances. A concussion can usually last from seven to ten days at the least, and stay for usually a month or two if the accident was severe. On the short end of the stick, a more severe concussion can last up to a year or two. Symptoms to watch for in regards to a concussion are blackouts, becoming vaguely fatigued, lack of memory and concentration, and sensitivity to light and noises.

PTSD

Although PTSD can be triggered by many different things, an auto accident can also give the same effects as someone that just came home from the military. Having PTSD is basically like reliving the same traumatic experience over and over. Even though this memory might not happen every day, it can still potentially take effect over your entire life just by how severe the accident may have been. Diagnosing PTSD can be quite easy, you will notice that you are experiencing the feeling of being on edge and alert, reliving traumatic memories, avoiding memories, and not being able to fully commit to instilled beliefs or feelings.

Whiplash

Another delayed effect of an auto accident is enduring whiplash. Whiplash usually occurs a few days after the accident and even may go unnoticed. If you ever start to experience stiffness or loss of range of the neck, tenderness in the shoulder and back area, or blurred vision and fatigue, then there is a high chance you are experiencing whiplash. This condition can call for an X-ray and maybe an MRI to properly diagnose the intensity of injury.

Internal Bleeding

Signs of internal bleeding can go unnoticed for hours and sometimes even days. If you happen to experience abdominal pain and swelling, deep purple bruising, or fainting spells, you should immediately reach out to emergency personnel. This type of injury could turn into a life-threatening event and should be treated in a proper amount of time to prevent worse risks.

After Effects

Noticing these effects can be tough and should not be overlooked by a glance, because not only are you putting your life at risk but you could also be compensated for the injury endured. This process can be handled by an auto accident attorney, who would be more than happy to help settle an amount to cover hospital bills and any expenses that you may undergo from the accident.

When in an auto accident, be sure to take note of all damages and injuries, even if they are a few hours delayed. If you are able to point out the injuries more effectively after such an accident, you can rest assured that attorneys will able to help you settle a case more effectively.

About This Blog

The title of this blog reflects my attitude toward those government agencies and insurance companies that routinely mistreat injured or disabled people. As a Dallas, Texas lawyer, I've spent more than 45 years trying to help those poor folk, and I have been frustrated daily by the actions of the people on the other side of their claims. (Sorry if I offended you...)
