Stuck in the Slammer? How to Get out Quickly

If you’ve ever been in jail, you know the experience can get a lot worse than what’s shown in movies. Everything can seem confusing. And because of all the pressure, many may end up taking plea bargains for things they didn’t do. The good news is there are things you can do to ensure a faster release. If you’re ever stuck in the slammer, here is how to get out quickly.

Know Your Rights

It’s a good idea to know your rights depending on where you get arrested. Police sometimes play dirty, and if you don’t know certain things, you may end up suffering for it. For instance, you need to know the correct arrest process and also your rights as an inmate. In some places, it’s illegal to have the authorities hold you for more than 72 hours without any charges. Always read up and learn as much as you can about your rights.

Be Sure to Follow the Rules

Things can go from bad to worse fast if you don’t obey the rules. In as much as you may be in the right, it is critical to remain calm. Do your best to follow the rules and instructions given to you by officers. Always address the police with respect, and don’t create any scenes. Remember, they’re in authority, and you’re not. The better behaved you are, the higher your chances of getting out faster.

Make the Right Phone Call

You’re usually given the chance to make one phone call. If you’d like to get out quickly, you need to make it count. Think through it before you dial anyone. After all, reaching out to the right relative or friend can make a world of difference. If you don’t know any good lawyers, your friends or family can always help you find one.

Determine the Cost of Bail

Various factors will determine how much you’ll have to pay to get bailed out of jail. Usually, bail is set higher for violent crimes. Before calling a bail bond agent, find out whether you can know the amount needed first. Once you know the cost of bail, you can hire a specific bail bond agent. Remember, this is where your family is likely to help out. Always ensure to go with a bail bond service that is well known.

Finally, one of your fastest ways out of jail is working with a skilled lawyer. It may cost you some money to get a good attorney. But then you’ll have to weigh what matters to you most.

About This Blog

The title of this blog reflects my attitude toward those government agencies and insurance companies that routinely mistreat injured or disabled people. As a Dallas, Texas lawyer, I've spent more than 45 years trying to help those poor folk, and I have been frustrated daily by the actions of the people on the other side of their claims. (Sorry if I offended you...)
