The AP reports the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration unveiled a new online dashboard Thursday that allows users to “search its massive database for automobile recalls going back 50 years.” The new interface “allows users to sort and filter data, search by keyword and export data in a variety of formats” and “displays data in different visual formats such as charts and graphs.” NHTSA said safety data has always been publicly available, but had to be downloaded and imported in large files.
Automotive News reports NHTSA Acting Administrator Steven Cliff said in a statement, “This new dashboard provides unprecedented transparency into the recall process. More than 50 years of recall data are now easily available to the media, researchers, safety advocates, and anyone interested in learning more about vehicle safety.”
